Guernsey – Temporary Sewer Strain & Water Restrictions
Dear Residents,
Due to unusually high groundwater levels, our sewer pump system is currently operating at capacity and is struggling to keep up with the increased flow.
To help manage the situation, we have had a contractor on site working to alleviate strain on the system and assist with maintaining operations. These measures are helping but are extremely costly to the community. We are asking all residents to help by immediately reducing input into the sewage system.
Please do not discharge sump pumps or well systems directly into the sewer system.
Please limit activities such as:
- Lawn and garden watering
- Washing vehicles
- Excessive laundry loads
- Long showers or unnecessary water use
These activities both increase the local water table and produce RO wastewater which exacerbates the issue. These temporary measures will help reduce strain on the sewer system while groundwater conditions improve. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to protect the community infrastructure and avoid potential sewer back-ups and/or service disruptions.
Thank you,
The Hamlet of Guernsey
